MAHATMA GANDHI Mahatma Gandhi, also known as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was a prominent figure in India's fight for independence from British rule. Mahatma Gandhi is also know as ''BAPU''. He is considered as the ''Father Of Nation'' to India . His principles of non-violent resistance and civil disobedience continue to inspire people around the world. Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, India, to father Karamchand Uttamchand Gandhi and his mother Putlibai Gandhi. He studied law in London and later practiced in South Africa, where he became involved in the struggle for the rights of Indian immigrants.
